Is this perfect timing? When terrorism has been brought unto American soil, and war has recently taken many lives. In a time where the financial market seems to be failing globally, and many are fearful of losing their jobs. When fear has been used as a tool that is influencing political partisanship in America regarding life insurance. When our fears lead us to shutting ourselves in our homes after the World Health Organization (WHO) raises their alert of the H1N1 virus to a global pandemic. When it is a time people are fearful of losing their lives, jobs, or simply life’s disappointment, a great book is born.
When I heard about Max Lucado completing his book entitled “Fearless”, I knew I simply had to pick it up. It was perfect timing since I felt overburdened by all the events going around the world. Instead of slowing down to regroup, I seem to keep busy with life and allow fear to settle in leaving me with questions on how to address them. Therefore, I was hoping for a book to give me the easy recipe to overcome these fears. Fortunately, Max Lucado did not provide any formula to remove fear. Instead he focused on several of our common fears; fears that usually stresses us, take away time, and sometimes paralyzes us. Max Lucado describes these fears, shapes them through stories, analyzes it, discusses their origin, and then provides biblical facts leaving us with hope. While it is not a formula to eliminate our fears, he reminds us of how to properly set our perception, focus on the important things, and then to have faith.
This is a book I will probably read over again. With the different stages of life and the unpredictable events that unfold, the things we fear may change. Therefore, I can reference specific fears if it becomes necessary. I would definitely re-read the book in a slower pace to deeply dive into these. In fact, the book provides a wonderful discussion guide in the end to help you as individual or for group discussions.
Perfect timing? Absolutely. It is clear that God had lead Max Lucado in writing this book considering he started two years ago; prior to most of the events we face now.
I would highly recommend the book to everyone!
